Hawaiian Orchid

I've added photography as another form of art.  I took this picture a few years ago in Maui, Hawaii.  This picture captures the bright colors of the orchid with the water in the background.  You can also get inspired to draw artwork from the photos that you have taken.  Try taking pictures of objects with textures.  You can practice drawing these textures on either plain or textured paper.

Let's Make Confetti

You can create your own confetti for a party, celebration, or an event.  Use a three hole puncher to punch out circles.  Try using different types of colored paper, cardstock, construction paper, etc.  You can also find hole punchers with different shapes, like hearts, leaves, flowers, & more at your local craft shop.  Try creating confetti with a variety of hole punchers for a festive themed party!

Favorite Color

My favorite color's lime green. This color's refreshing, energizing, & bright. Mixing lime green, yellow, & orange gives a citrus combination.  Mixing lime green & shades of light blue gives a tropical water color.  Try mixing your favorite color with other colors to create your own unique combinations.

Night Butterfly

I've always loved butterflies.  Just watching them dance in the air is so uplifting.  I drew this butterfly as it takes off into the night under the moon.  I used metallic colored pencils & added simple designs to the wings.

Fall Colors

It's fall 2011.  Fall's a perfect time to capture the beautiful colors changing on the leaves.  Take some photos, gather a few leaves, take your sketchbook outside, and get inspired!  Create art by using fall colors: deep red, gold, dark green, orange, yellow, brown, etc.  These warm colors combined will bring warmth to your home or office on a winter's day.

Blending Chalk

If you use chalk for your artwork, here are a few items that you can use to blend the colors:
Q-tips. cottonballs, soft sponge, tissue or a soft cloth.  You can create a mixture of colors by blending with these items.  This works well when drawing with colored chalk on black cardstock.

Balloon

I like to use shading in my artwork.  Here's a simple design where I combined red, orange, & yellow. You can draw this balloon by first drawing a circle.  Then draw a small triangle at the bottom of the circle.  Add a string by drawing a wavy line.  The balloon will appear to float by drawng a wavy line.
