Holiday Art

Happy Holidays.  Here are a few holiday sketches that you can practice drawing.  Use these ideas for holiday ornaments & greeting cards.

Jewelry Wire Wrapping

Did you know that you can use chopsticks to wrap a wire for jewelry making?  Take one of the chopsticks then wrap the wire around the chopstick to the length that you need.  Then slowly pull the wrapped wired off the chopstick.  Depending on the shape of the chopstick you used either circular or square, the wire will be of that shape.  Keep this simple tool handy for your jewelry making.

Color Outside

We've all been taught to color inside the lines. Right? But what happens if you color outside the lines? You get a different type of art.  Draw two squares.  Color inside one of the squares. Next, color around the outside of the second square.  You now have two different creative forms of art.  You get a different perspective if you color outside the lines.

Character Art

I want to share an amazing art created by my student.  She did a wonderful job drawing this character.  Draw your favorite character.  Start with a sketch then add details & color.

Glitter Stars

Stars at night are magical & we often wish upon a star.  Create your own star scene using black cardstock, glitter, and glue.  Swirl glue on the cardstock.  Sprinkle the glitter on the glue.  Shake off the excess glitter.  Let the design dry.  Draw a moon to complete the scene.

Fall Leaf Theme

Leaves are beginning to change color for this fall season.  Look around for your favorite colored fall leaf.  Place the leaf on a sheet of paper.  Trace around the outside of the leaf.  Draw a fall season theme inside the traced outline. 

Bright Smile

The color yellow makes me happy.  Happiness brings a smile.  What color would you choose to make your happy smile?

Rock Art

I have collected many types of rocks over the years.  Some were smooth & some had nice forms & colors.  Pick up a rock that you find.  Look at the rock to see if you can turn the rock into a form of art.  Create the art on the rock using any art medium of your choice.  Display your creation on your desk or table.

Rainbow Colors

The colors of a rainbow are a great source for inspiration.  Draw an object that represents each color of the rainbow.  Use chalk, paint, markers, or your favorite art supply to create your magical rainbow of colors.

Simple Doodle

A simple doodle can be transformed into a cool artwork.  Draw random patterns until you form an object.  This doodle turned into a flower.

Cloud Patterns

I often enjoy watching the clouds change into different forms.  The clouds transform into shapes, objects, and even animal patterns.  Take pictures of cloud patterns that you see.  Use the pictures as a guide to draw a variety of clouds.

Pet Cartoons

Pets are a joy & they make us laugh at silly things that they do.  Draw a comic strip of your pet's most funniest moment.  Be creative!

Curve Drawing

Here's a drawing lesson that I created that teaches how to draw objects from a curved line.  What other objects can you draw using a curved line?

Your World

Pull out your sketch book.  Draw a large circle.  This circle represents Your World.  How do you envision Your World?  Could it be a place you'd like to live or a hobby that you enjoy?  Fill in the circle with your sketch then share Your World.

Summer Theme

What's your favorite summer theme? A few ideas...going to the beach, camping, or swimming?  Draw your favorite summer theme then share with your friends.

Blended Galaxy

Different forms of art can be combined.  I used white chalk to create the comet and stars for the background.  The planets and solar system were created using a graphic software.  I merged the two art forms together to create the galaxy.

Origami Paper

The page a day calendars are perfect to use as origami paper.  The papers are square & fold easily.  Plus you can make an origami object for each day of the year.

Yellow Color

I want to share a fun creative activity.  Sketch the first object that comes to your mind that's yellow.  Outline the object with a black marker.  Fill in with your favorite shade of yellow. 

Love Rose

I love the elegant form of flowers.  Roses are simple yet elegant.  I created this art by combining the rose & the expression of Love.  Draw your favorite flower then write a word that inspires you.

Scrapbook Sticker Book

Scrapbooks are great for a variety of craft projects.  Did you know scrapbooks can also be used as a sticker book?  Kids would love this!  Purchase a scrapbook & stickers of your choice.  Stick the stickers on the pages of the book.  Arrange the stickers to make a scene, a theme, or use alphabet stickers to design a message.

Spring Colors

It's almost Spring!  Welcome the new season by adding a splash of color that celebrates Spring.  Decorate your home, room, or office with your favorite Spring color.

Calligraphy Styles

There are many different calligraphy styles.  I created a few styles shown here.  You can create both simple & fancy calligraphy.  Try using different colors of calligraphy markers to design cards, invitations, or write poetry.

A Big Heart

Tomorrow's Valentine's Day!  Here's a simple design that you can create.  Draw a big heart with a red marker on either a cardstock or paper.  Write a special message inside the heart.  You can also frame your design too.

Jewelry Tree

Natural items can be used to create functional art.  Find a sturdy tree branch.  Place the branch upright in a container of your choice.  Hang your necklaces, bracelets, & other jewelry items on the branches.  A natural art form that also serves as a jewelry holder.

Snow Design

Happy New Year.  Since it's winter, here's an easy way to design snow indoors.  Purchase a pack of cottonballs & silver glitter.  Arrange the cottonballs on a table, desk, etc.  Spread some out & place some together.  Then sprinkle glitter on the cotton to add some shine.
